How are you styling your tables?

Styling tables is an easy way to add color, texture, and personality to a room.   We’ve gotten many requests to show you how to style a dining table after we recently launched our coffee table styling post.  Now, we’ve moved to the dining room.  What we like about this space is that you can dress it up or down depending on the color scheme in your household.

How you style a dining table will depend largely on the lighting in the room.  Typically, lighting is the focal point in the dining room space, the other elements are a nod to the fixed elements trim work, built-ins, wall color, furniture, décor, and artwork, etc. that are in a dining room.

1.) Keep it simple. Never underestimate the power of a runner and a vase with floral stems.

Here we used a runner with some navy in it and these green vase with floral stems.  In the space we used a green vase because it complemented the artwork and the décor in the room.  During this install, we created a storyline out of different shades of green throughout the home.

2) A tall vase with fresh flowers

Our design projects, we love using live stems and fresh florals.  The light fixture and artwork were statement pieces and the table and chairs complemented them.  So, we didn’t need a statement piece on the table.  Sometimes less is more!  The homeowner had a beautiful clear vase that she added her favorite lilies to.

Fresh flowers: we love finding flowers or stems from Trader Joes.  If you know, you know!

3) Interest centerpieces

For this Modern Farmhouse property, we used a wooden centerpiece with a glass top and added texture with decorative balls.  It brings all elements together-the tobacco baskets, centerpiece, and artwork.

Other installs, we have used vases of various heights on a table-one with stems, one with moss and left one of them empty.
